Ving Rhames Dishes On The Time He Was Confronted By Police In His Own Home
Ving Rhames once had his own scary run-in with the police. During a conversation on the Clay Cane Show on SiriuxXM, Rhames dished on the one time when the police pulled a gun on him.
A neighbor called the police on Ving when they thought he was a robber. According to Rhames, he was watching TV in his Santa Monica house, and one night, the police came knocking on his door.
When he opened it up, the police officer was shining a 9mm handgun in his face, with the red laser dot situated right between his eyes. Ving said that when he opened the door, they said to him, “put up your hands.”
They told him to exit the house with his hands up. Lucky for him, one of the policemen recognized that it was Ving Rhames. However, he didn’t recognize him from a movie. According to the actor, the officer remembered his face from their sons’ high school basketball game.
The police told him it “was a mistake,” and they apologized for the incident. However, he had to ask what was the reason for them arriving at his house anyway.
According to the police, someone called the cops on him as he was entering his home, thinking that he was a burglar. When the police brought him over to the woman’s residence, she denied that she was a racist.
The police said to him, “a woman called the police because a large black man was breaking into someone’s home.”
Ving said that this is a serious problem in America, and racist 9-1-1 calls are made all of the time by overly fearful individuals. Police need to be far more careful in the way that they go about dealing with situations, and the public needs to be more discerning when they call the police.
