Chance: A Powerful Love Story

Aduke sighs "Ishola I have told you times without number that it can't work between us,I am not in love with you and I will never be, I am in love with someone else and I am sure he will propose to me very soon"

He moves over to where aduke was standing, kneels down with an apologetic look and held aduke's hand" please aduke,you are my heartbeat and I just can't let you go, I promise i....

Phew! A slap landed on ishola's face, "to hell with you and your promises,I said I am not interested or are you deaf? There are lots of beautiful ladies in this village,go and love them and make promises to them,I will never love you.

Ishola stood up with his left palm on his face,he was more than shocked,he never believe aduke could raise up her hands to slap him,he keeps shaking his head. " Aduke,you slapped me?

"It is ishola,the guy is just stupid and a complete definition of foolishness"

Calm down and explain things to me,I don't understand her mother sensing her anger tried to calm her down." Which ishola?"

"Ishola the farmer" she replied calmly he has been disturbing me for months now and I have told him thàt it can't work between us, I am in love with someone else "

Aduke smiled shyly having realise that her mother wants to know the man she truly loves even though he has not proposed ," it is Akanni,maami.

"The palm wine tapper?" Mama aduke asked. Aduke shakes her head and replied " No o, akanni the blacksmith"

"Haaa!! Mogbe!! ( I am done for) The one that has been engaged to ajoke!" Aduke shakes her head

"No maami, they are not engaged o! Akanni says they are just family friends" Mama aduke sits down having realise that her daughter has been fooled

"Aduke,oko mi( my jewel) come take a sit beside me" Aduke sat beside her mother

"You see, ajoke is engaged to akanni and few people in this village knows about it because the occasion was notWas not elaborate, in fact just the two families knew about it but I was told by IYA Akanni, he is engaged!  Whatever he told you about smoke been his family friend is a big lie, he does not love you.

Aduke sits on the uncemented floor of their home with her hands on her head, sobbing. "But maami, I love him,i love him so much that I can do anything and everything for him, he is my life"

IYA Aduke shakes her head, "Aduke, I know you are heartbroken but the truth is sometimes people we love do not seems to love us in return, they are busy chasing people they are in love with and do not have our time, the people they are also in love with are in love with someone else and it goes on and on. But why can't we give people who seems to love,care and adore us a chance. Chance to a new beginning of something sweet and maybe perhaps if olodumare(God) says it will be, it will! But we have to give love a chance, and stop waiting endlessly so someone who will never come because they are busy too". "I am sure ishola loves you, he will treat you right and you will never regret loving him only if you give him a chance.
